marching in front of the strand theater in the early 60's, from a tenderfoot to an e-5 specialist in the army in just a few years

back in the sixtys boy scouting was getting you ready for the future , and troop 68 as one of the best troops to be in at the time. reggie shalett and ralph baker were our scout masters , my dad bill powers was asistant scout master . we marched , hiked , campt out , and went to gamborees, done skits in front of city hall was trained in first aid, cooking fire starting surviveal, and many many more fun and great things. we had patrols skunk patrol was were you went if you continued to mess up.we had our meetings in noterdame school, it was a cathlic troop., we camped at camp vigor every summer, rain or shine, went out for the order of the arrow, witch ment you had to live like an indian for a week. learning how to survive and take what ever they handed out not being able to talk to anyone the hole time. scouting got me ready for the army in a lot of ways. i learned how to march read a compas, cook, sew do my laundry and spit shine shoes. build latreens and fight as well as shoot. the army came easy.

winter 2010& 11

winter 2010& 11 started early this year/.
it seamed like every day for a while i was shoveling.

the birds have gone through at least 100lbs of seed so far. but they are fun to watch. and the squirrels get there share.

the ice fishermen have had a good year thus far . ice is thick and the turniments are going on as scedualed.

the old chevey is there to stay ,. at least tell spring.

a beautiful sight two young deer makeing the best of the winter. every once in a while on a good day you would see a few deer come out of hideing to browse on the corn.

my old buddy the porcupine, he was sick just before it snowed and i went back to see him every day. he could not climb a tree . his eyes cleard up and he started moveing trying to eat a little. but then the snows came and it was getting harder to visit him.

i was afrid i would find him dead sooner or later. when the snow got deep i only went back once a week. there he was on the ground almost like he was hybernateing. there were many other tracks of pines walking a few feet from him. they must of known he was sick.

i tried to feed him corn and pieces of hay but he was to weak. later i went back to see him and there was no sign. no tracks . did he finaly get over what ever he had . and go back to the den with the others? the trail they were useing was battered down. so i haven,t seen him in a few weeks now.

as our winter went on we were hearing about all the storms around us . deep snow everywhere across the states even in the caralinas they had snow and georgia,.

it was beginning to feel like a second job. but luckly i love to shovel and be out side . if you stay worm and don't get your hands and feet wet take your time you can shovel all day long. my drive ways 110 feet long i widen it to 20 feet and theres a parking spot next to the house big enoug h for two vehicles. so i had to build me a bigger shovel . that i did. i would like to patten it . i call it a mans shovel not that a woman couldn't use it. but becouse it is so big.

notice the size of it.

look at the mountian of snow compared to the tractor trailer it is a mountian

when the subzero weather came it was exausting trying to do anything out side. just feeding the birds was a chore. frost built up on the mustash. couldn't where my glasses becouse they fogged up so bad.

sometimes the plows went by so fast they through snow and you couldn't see the truck.

i couldn't wait for a little thaw so i could have some packy snow to play with,. but it only lasted a few days,.

the roof had a least a foot of snow on it and it was hanging over so i had to break it up and shovel it off before the next storm hit.

sunny days when it is very cold makes for good photography. the shadows are beautiful even useing a low pixel.

the shed didn't get much use after the saver cold set in. i went through a lot of wood durring hunting season and cut a little.

all in all it was a long cold dragged out winter and it is trying to go the other way but i'm afraid it's not over yet.

this was at wallyworld. now thats a shovel

one evening at work. i was the last car standing. notice how nice alcoa keeps there parking lot. ya right,

so if the truck makes it through the deep snow he will be ready for spring

my home made shovel. doesn't take long to do this large drive way. lot les time then a blower and lot less gass. guess it could be called the green machine.

my home made sled plywood and skies works great.

winter 2010 started early. durring the hunting season it started getting cold. deer season is another storry. it was a lousy season had a chance to fill my tag early but becouse of my lazyness my rifle miss fired , did not go off . froze from bad oil./ lesson i will remember for a while. any ways the snow came and stayed . here are a few pictures to let you know just what it was like,in up state new york and we, had it good here compared to other countys,

there are a couple short videos i think you'll like enjoy.
